Evo-OS (ee-vos) or Evolution Operating System is a web-based operating system that strives to provide a desktop-like environment that is customizable and expandable just like your own computer desktop. The big difference between Evo-OS and your desktop is that all information stored on your Evo-OS desktop is kept on an online server.
Ah, the most common question. YES, Evo-OS beta is entirely free. No ads, no pop-ups, no spam.
Evo-OS is not based on any normal operating systems. The entire desktop resides in your browser and the Evo-OS operating system is stored on a remote server. Evo-OS itself is based on the eyeOS platform.
A closed beta is a test of a piece of software that is already almost complete, and members of the general public are invited to try it out before it goes "Gold". A closed beta requires that users send in an application, and upon approval are granted access. Open beta's do not require any screening.
Yes, everyone is able to apply, however, due to limited space only a smaller portion will be given accounts. There are no specific requirements, we generally operate on a 'First Come, First Serve' basis.
Each account is limited to 2048MB (2GB) for the moment.
We would like to have members of the general public, from all walks of life and types of careers to give Evo-OS and try and to submit their thoughts and ideas about what they like, don't like and would like to see implemented. Evo-OS will do its best to try and meet the recommendations of its testers, or at least try and meet half-way. Think of it as a "live survey" where your input really counts.
Please use the forums and either create a thread or if you believe the issue is more serious, contact the Administrators through the forum PM (Private Message) feature or via e-mail located on the Contact Us page.
Yes. We are continously interested in offering new themes/templates that reflect many popular operating systems to better cater to the diverse userbase on the Internet.
There is no pre-determined time limit for the beta, we will conclude the testing stage once we, and the userbase is happy with the results. If Evo-OS goes "Gold", current beta members will not lose their information, data, etc nor will their accounts be removed in anyway.
No. Evo-OS is a desktop web-based OS and does not allow the operation of any server related services, nor does it support the installation of such software.
Yes! Some basic games are included to keep you occupied during those boring days... :P
Evo-OS is currently in beta. We do not encourage users to store very sensitive data on their accounts. Eventually, if Evo-OS grows in popularity we will implement Secure Socket Layer (SSL) throughout the entire Evo-OS session but at the moment the cost of a rooted SSL certificate is too great to justify on a newly started project.
